NCROPE 12 strand UHMWPE rope is a high-performance single-braid rope manufactured from premium ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) fibers using a 12-strand braided construction, offering maximum strength-to-weight ratio, extremely low stretch, and easy splicing for critical load-bearing applications in marine, offshore, industrial, and military environments.
With a breaking strength 8 to 10 times higher than steel wire rope of the same diameter and weighing only a fraction of equivalent steel, our 12-strand UHMWPE rope floats on water, resists chemicals and UV, and remains flexible in extreme cold. The 12-strand construction allows for high-strength eye splices that retain up to 95% of the rope breaking strength.
NCROPE provides full customization including diameter, length, coating, color, eye splicing, end fittings, and private-label packaging for marine distributors, offshore operators, military suppliers, and OEM brands worldwide.
12 strand UHMWPE rope is a single-braid rope constructed by braiding twelve strands of UHMWPE fiber together in a round, tight pattern. Unlike double braided rope which has a core-and-cover construction, 12-strand rope is a single layer where all fibers contribute directly to the rope strength. This results in higher strength efficiency (90-95% of fiber strength) compared to double braid construction.
UHMWPE (Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene) fiber, also known as Dyneema or Spectra, is one of the strongest man-made fibers available. It has extremely low elongation at break (approximately 3-3.5%), high energy absorption, and outstanding resistance to chemicals, UV radiation, moisture, and abrasion. The 12-strand braided construction makes the rope easy to splice, allowing for strong, reliable eye terminations without specialized equipment.
Used for large vessel mooring lines, tugboat towing hawsers, offshore anchor lines, and ship assist operations where maximum strength and low stretch are critical for safety and operational efficiency.
Applied in offshore platform mooring, anchor handling tugs (AHT), riser protection, and subsea installation where lightweight high-strength rope replaces traditional steel wire to improve safety and reduce deck loads.
Suitable for heavy-lift crane lines, winch ropes, hoisting slings, and load-securing applications where reduced weight improves operational efficiency and worker safety.
Used in military applications including vehicle recovery, fast roping, parachute rigging, and equipment hoisting where reliable high-strength lightweight rope is essential for mission success.
Our 12 strand UHMWPE rope is manufactured from premium ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene fiber with the following key characteristics:
Construction: 12-strand single braid, all fibers contribute to strength
Strength efficiency: 90-95% of raw fiber strength (higher than double braid)
Elongation at break: Approximately 3-3.5%, minimal stretch under load
Specific gravity: 0.97 g/cm3, floats on water
Temperature range: Remains flexible at temperatures down to -43C
Water absorption: Zero absorption, no rotting or mildew
Chemical resistance: Resistant to acids, alkalis, saltwater, oils, and solvents
UV resistance: Excellent resistance to ultraviolet degradation
Splicing: Easy to splice with high-strength eye terminations retaining up to 95% of breaking strength

Custom diameters, lengths, coatings, and configurations available upon request. Breaking strengths are approximate and may vary by fiber grade and construction.
Maximum strength efficiency: Single-braid construction utilizes 90-95% of fiber strength, higher than double braid
8-10x stronger than steel: Dramatically reduces weight and improves handling compared to equivalent steel wire rope
Extremely low stretch: 3-3.5% elongation at break ensures precision tension control in critical operations
Easy splicing: 12-strand construction allows simple, high-strength eye splices without specialized tools
Floats on water: Specific gravity of 0.97 g/cm3 prevents sinking and eases marine retrieval
Zero water absorption: No strength loss, rotting, or mildew when exposed to moisture
Chemical and UV resistant: Withstands saltwater, acids, alkalis, oils, and prolonged sun exposure
Cold-weather flexibility: Maintains flexibility down to -43C for year-round performance
Feature | 12 Strand Single Braid | Double Braided |
|---|---|---|
Construction | Single layer, 12 strands | Inner core + outer cover |
Strength efficiency | 90-95% of fiber strength | 85-90% of fiber strength |
Abrasion resistance | Moderate (exposed fibers) | Higher (covered core) |
Splice strength | Up to 95% retention | Up to 90% retention |
Handling | Firmer, holds shape | Softer, easier to coil |
Best for | Max strength, clean environments | High-wear, critical applications |
1. Determine the working load: Calculate the maximum working load and select a rope with a breaking strength at least 5-10 times higher for general use (10:1 safety factor for lifting).
2. Select the diameter: Match the diameter to your equipment winch drum, cleat size, or fitting requirements. Larger diameters provide more strength but add weight.
3. Consider coating options: Polyurethane coating enhances abrasion resistance and improves handling; uncoated rope offers maximum strength efficiency.
4. Specify splicing and fittings: Pre-spliced eyes, thimbles, shackles, or custom terminations should be specified based on your connection method.
5. Evaluate environmental factors: For high-abrasion environments, consider a double braid version with protective cover instead.
